I was thinking about how much potential there is to really change the world and I wished I had a direct line to the NEW PRESIDENT! I'm sure we all have a list of things we'd like to see changed immediately - during the first 100 days.
So, I'd like to invite you to join me in listing YOUR top three things you'd like President Obama to get working on from Day One. Follow me ...
Of course, most of us have a lot more than three issues we'd like to see addressed. And we know none of it will be easy, because the dividers are still going to be in the Congress and in the media.
But as Barack Obama said throughout his campaign, "This isn't about me, it's about YOU." And he's made it clear that the changes he wants to make will require continued effort from the real grass roots.
I guess my top three issues would be (and, again, I have a lot more issues than these):
- Oversight over the "bailout" and restore integrity to the financial systems. To this end, I hope he will consult with a diverse group of "outsiders" who have had this on their radar for a long time including Ralph Nader and Kos's favorite Congressman, Dennis Kucinich, but also including academics and business women and men of integrity like Harry Leibowitz.
- Stand firm on commitment to BRING THE TROOPS HOME - AND - don't send more troops to Afghanistan before re-thinking that whole sorry exercise. Listen to people who say more troops in Afghanistan is NOT the answer. And REALLY SUPPORT THE TROOPS - Work to treat the troops who have already been wounded or damaged by the "war president" and need care, service, treatment, help and support.
- Bring back the true meaning of "bring to justice." Under Bush/Cheney, that phrase has pretty much meant "kill 'em" but it SHOULD mean, investigate crimes, hold firm on subpoenas (are you listening Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi?), no man or woman is above the law, speedy fair trial, and suitable and just punishment. Especially no man or woman or former administration official is above the law.
So, what are YOUR top three suggestions for our new President in his first 100 days?
