The hardcore conservatives are busily truing to fully rehab the performance of Sarah Palin as the losing VP candidate to rather cast her as the once and future hope of the right. They will be meeting tomorrow to plot strategy and "Sarah Palin will be a central part of the conversation". I don't doubt their abilities to win the media over and have them champion her as Ronald Reagan in red high heals. What a thought- but a real possibility!
The truth is that she did mobilize "the Republican base" but that was not a pretty sight. She concurrently fired up fair minded Americans of every religious, cultural, ethnic and racial persuasion. Her smears, distortions, insinuations, hate-speak, fear mongering and stealth inciting to riot tarnished her in the eyes of many American while her incredibly lame interview with Katie Couric and insane shopping (new revelations) crashed her reputation in these risky times.
We will never be able to figure out her full impact on election 2008 but I am very sure I would wish her on McCain once again knowing what we now know. As democrats,we always knew Palin was never destined to secure Hillary's supporters. What a moronic miscalculation on the intelligence of women!
I hope it is in this same spirit that the conservatives meet tomorrow and continue riding the runaway train Sarah Palin. All we need to remember is the close of the McCain/Palin campaign in Phoenix last night as John McCain finished his gracious speech he turned to Palin.
Could the body language between McCain and Palin been any creepier than when he thrust a forced hand towards her only to follow it with a distant hug more appropriate between enduring enemies at the end of a tough negotiation? He had been tortured as a POW but he never imagined the last two months of his political career with this pit bull attached to his leg slowly chewing the life out of his campaign.
May the republicans offer Sarah back as the Presidential choice for their party. I, for one, can't wait.
