Well, at 8 PST, as Keith O. got to call the national election for Barack, my wife and I opened the cheap but affordable Spanish faux-champagne and let go of all those Lucy-and-the-football flashback fears.
We stayed up until about 11 tracking the intractable tightness of NC, MO, IN and GA-Pres, not to mention MN, GA, AK and OR-Sen. But she had an appointment in the morning so we turned in.
Follow below the singularity for a rambling survey of the Weirdness Leaders as I encountered them first thing in the morning......
Total Weirness Number One:
What's With the Turnout?
Here and there on dKos in the last few hours there have been occasional mentions of the "disappointing" turnout. Right now (nearly 11 AM PST), the CNN web site still shows fewer than 120,000,000 two-party presidential popular votes. If there's not much more to come, thenwe did have some pretty disappointing turnout, vs. expectatios.
But at 10 AM PST I heard Andrea Mitchell begin her stint as MSNBC anchor by citing a turnout of 137M. WHOA! That's 17 million yet to be counted?1?!?! Where? I wanted an interactive TV at that moment!
Later I hit the google and found this story, which claimed a turnout figure around 133M
Closer, but still about 13M uncounted. Where? How? How many "called" races may need to be un-called?
Total Weirdness Number Two:
The very possibility of Ted Stevens being re-elected!!!
'Nuf said? But then there's McConnell saying Stevens wouldn't be seated, if he does hold on. Sorry, but I smelt a rat. They want to set Sarahcuda maybe to be able to appoint a fresh young Repug to be appointed to the seat???
Total Weirdness Number Three:
Minnesota Recount Follies
Why will that efficient midwestern state need so long to carry out the recount?
Total Weirdness Number Four:
How Haunted is Georgia?
Where are all those missing votes that have kept some nets from calling Georgia even in the presidential? How long will it take to find themand count 'em up real proper like?
Anyway, lunch is calling, and I would be interested to come back and see if any of you trusty Kossacks have inside knowledge about these puzzlers. Feel free to raise your own Morning After Weirdnesses in open thread fashion.
Enjoy your hangovers, of whatever sort; soon enough it will be Crunch Time for Governance!
