Woke up. Looked around. The newspaper confirmed it.
Looked out the window. I could see my whole neighborhood more clearly.
Didn't rush this morning. Didn't curse or fret.
Heard McCain's concession again on the radio in the car with the kids. Told them McCain was a good man. Do I believe it? We all look like better men this morning.
Went for a swim as usual. Fouad shook my hand: I'm the Obama guy in the pool. "Congratulations."
Opened the windows of the car afterwards. Let someone cut me off. Felt the air. Am I going to hang out a flag? What's this feeling called? When 51% of voters say no to the wounded Vet, and yes to a man named B. Hussein Obama? This is not business as usual. Am I dreaming?
America, I love you again, I am afraid, but I do. Don't disappoint me. Basement:
Reality check (Paradigmfragment.blogspot.com):
Why the Stock Market Lost 486 Points Today
It is because Obama won.
It's simple. We don't have a president in Obama who distrusts us instinctively and lies all the time, like Bush or McCain. The Republicans in an election year thrive on bullshit, it is what makes their world go round, and it is what the market loves, too. It's how people keep prices over their ordinary book value as a factor of earnings.
So the mirrors and fog machine have been yanked aside.
Minus another percentage point later this week: my prediction. You saw it here.
Still have that light feeling in my chest, however. Why can't we make electric cars, Goddammit? Why can't we have Nordic Countries style healthcare facilities? We have their blondwood furniture. Why can't we get control of our finances, for Christ's sake, please, is it really impossible to stop funnelling riches to the Saudis and Chinese and spend more money right here at home, on infrastructure and modernization? Or are we all going to the dogs like C. McCarthy and Korean Manga say we are?
