Of course, there are big, big things that make me happy. But these are among the surprising things that have brought me happiness too:
- So glad I don't have to look at Real Clear Politics again for at least another eighteen months.
- Lies the GOP tacitly endured to attempt to maintain power are coming out already.
- Obama has more backbone than Bush; it's obvious; it's driving people crazy.
- Did I see Connie Rice actually smile today?
- Black pride for the moment is my pride too. I can't get enough of it. And I'm a fifty-one-year-old white guy born of Canadian parents....
- The one sight I know I will never forget election night: driving down Hyperion, spotting six or seven kids, freaks really, stars and stripes and tie-dye shirts and wild hair, all about twenty-two or so, dancing, literally jumping for joy, every which way, and one is playing a fife, and the one bringing up the rear is pounding a snare drum, like the Spirit of '76.
- Our deep dish CHICAGO-STYLE pizza way of celebrating. We were looking forward to it for months. What a pizza! Next deep dish: Inauguration Day.
- Axelrod telling everyone: "Yeah, but we just want to get some votes counted..." about a hundred times.
- Nader voters we know...wrong side of history, and already sensing it.
- My neighbor letting her 15-year-old daughter spend a week in Nevada, because the daughter wanted to keep knocking on doors like mom did a couple of weekends.
- Same kid, after a night watching Democratic convention: "Why do they all dress so funny?" (Me in response: "Wait 'til you see the Republicans next week.")
