This is my first diary, and I'm putting this up mostly because I am bursting with emotion, and feel a need to vent. I have already opened my back window and shouted into the night, as did many of my neighbors on Tuesday night, but I still feel a need for tangible revenge. Over the last 24 hours I have been running through my head the list of outrages that we have endured, and the wrongs that I would love to see undone by President Obama on Day One.
I realize we are in a deep hole and there are hundreds of serious issues deserving attention. Start those on Day Two. On Day One I would like three wishes, three simple wrongs undone, and then I will feel that a glorious victory has been won:
- Rename Ronald Reagan Airport.
This was an insult to Mr Dulles The Nationals (Obviously I don't fly there) by the jerk-offs who dreamed up Republican rule for a thousand years. Change it back, rename it for Roosevelt, rename it for Howard Dean, or how about MoveOn International? Anything.
- Free John Walker Lindh
Rove's first poster boy, and a lot less guilty than the wayward child that is sitting in the Oval office. Enough torture and show trials. Let this kid go.
- Bring back the 55 Mile Speed Limit
Republicans got lots of "mileage" out of the bone-headed populist repeal. But it was a smart policy, and one of the first things we should have re-enacted on 9/12. Don't like driving 55? Tough, there's a war on. If we revived the transition to the metric system (Killed by Reagan, another sop to the know-nothings) we could raise the speed limit to 90kph!
Not big wishes. I would wish for three more with my third wish if that were allowed. But these three little wishes would put a smile on my face for at least the first hundred days.
