"I'm a uniter, not a divider."
How could any of us forget that phrase from the 2000 campaign? At the time we laughed it off, and rightly so, as it was patently absurd and went out the window before the votes were even finished being counted.
Now, eight years later, it turns out to have been truer than either Bush or any of us could have imagined. After being split down the middle, Americans almost universally now want an end to the war in Iraq. To a man, the entire country has raised our voices against secret wiretapping and torture prisons, most especially Guantanamo bay. Everyone, but everyone is screaming for tighter (any) Wall Street regulations. We can imagine where social security would be now if it were privatized, and we've seen firsthand what bad legislation NCLB and the donut hole prescription plan have been. We all think the rich can afford to pay more.

It took 8 full years and two (thank god it was only 2) wars, but George bush has finally united the entire nation... against himself.
Eight years from now, people in general will be friendlier. We will also be richer, smarter, less overworked, more respected, healthier, and of course, more united and at peace than ever.
The air will be crisper, the sun will shine brighter, and food and water will taste better.
These are not wild, starry-eyed, pie in the sky dreams. They will be the direct result of Democratic policies put into action. And it was George Bush's unifying that made it all possible. Thanks, W.
