Man, this kind of diary (the one I'm linking here) really pisses me off. And who the hell is recommending it???
We, as Democrats, should not take the great victories of this week as a license to use deceit as a tool to make progressive points.
Here's the amazing, wonderful headline of the diary:
MASSACHUSETTS VOTES OVERWHELMINGLY FOR SINGLE PAYER 72% to 28%
Now, universal healthcare is absolutely necessary for the US.
But, something bugged me about this diary.
I mean, I was surprised, at first.
Even I thought "ZOMG, why isn't it being covered by the media!!!"
Er... Come to think of it, what evil force actually made the question NOT appear on my ballot in BOSTON?!!!!
It wasn't a very long ballot at all, how could I miss it?
Hmmm... looking at the numbers and tables in the link provided in the diary, I see the answer.
It's because Massachusetts, as a state, did NOT vote on this question AT ALL
Almost all MA residents never even saw the question.
This question was NOT on the ballot of more than 90% (or greater) of voters in the state of Massachusetts. Nearly no one in Boston, MA, saw it.
Statewide, 40 towns are named as having this on their ballot. There are 351 towns/cities in MA. That's almost 9%. One of those towns is Boston, but only a tiny sliver of it.
Statewide:
169,582 voted on this question.
3,047,312 voted for president.
OF all MA residents who voted for a president, 5.6% voted in any way on this measure.
Most of the rest never even saw the question. It wasn't on their ballots.
This kind of false talk will NOT help any arguments for anything - even though I may support the ultimate point.
If you have to lie to make your case, then your case isn't worth making.
This case IS worth making, so don't make shit up.
After years of being "Reality-Based" here and elsewhere, we can not now, having full Democratic control, afford to be sloppy and deceitful.
That way lies where the GOP is now.
The point is, while I support the idea proposed, I don't support lying to get it done.
Otherwise, we're just Freepers and Little Green Footballers.
If you honor the integrity of our soon-to-be President, you will take this point seriously.
