As PRESIDENT ELECT OBAMA said in his eloquent and humble victory speech, it took a wide range of people to keep the dream alive and deliver America from her darkest days. The President Elect mentioned key players like Joe Biden, Michelle and the kids, his grandmother: the late Madelyn Dunham, the Davids: Plouffe and Axelrod, and you: the volunteers who walked, phoned, stuffed, baked, talked, wrote, blogged, and otherwise supported this historic campaign. I am proud of the small part I played as, I'm sure, are you.
But wait!
Why no mention of... why no thanks to... why the snub of three men who made a huge contribution to the Obama victory. Dare I say he may not have been able to win without them? These true American heros who, nearly single-handedly (tri-handedly?) delivered a huge block of moderate American voters to Barack. I speak, naturally, of Messrs. O'Reilly, Hannity, and Limbaugh. I apologize to them that they didn't get the thanks they so rightly deserve, and I commemorate their indispensible role, below the fold.
These three patriots worked in lockstep, so I will not attempt differentiate their contributions, or to praise one to the exclusion of the others. They had similar, coordinated messages and identical motivations.
And what motivations would those be?
If you were to ask them or their regular followers, you would probably get an answer like:
- to advance the conservative agenda, or
- to deliver votes for conservatives, or
- to excite and motivate Republican voters and operatives, or, most importantly,
- to expose the lies, fraud and corruption that permeate the progressive agenda and its misguided, evil followers.
But believe me, My Friends®, those are not the real motivations that drive these hard-working men to rise early and work tirelessly, often producing two or three shows per day, six days a week. No. Those motivations would never suffice to deliver such Herculean efforts.
The real motivation?
- To line their pockets with as much money as humanly possible by spewing hate talk to the hard core of the Great Republican Coalition (GRC).
The GRC, as you know, consists of:
- Neocons
- Theocons
- Corporate Cons
- Rednecks
- Racists, and
- Morons
Does the Triumverate of Spew® fully understand that there are not enough votes within the GRC to win an election? Yes, of course they do. These are not stupid men (well, Hannity, No! I said I wouldn't differentiate).
Do they care? No! (see Motivation, above).
So they talk and talk, to the same 35% of America who, while far short of a majority to win an election, represent a huge block of viewers/listeners that advertisers covet and will pay mightily to reach. They deliver what the GRC craves most - hate, intolerence, name calling, lies, rudeness, yelling, fallacious arguments, shameless blind bias and, most of all, mind-numbing repetition of all of the above.
All the time knowing that their audience would vote for the Republican anyway, so they are not delivering any votes for Republicans. Their 35% always votes Republican and always will.
Because we live in a 35% - 35% society.
Because elections are won or lost in the middle - that middle 30% commonly known as the moderates - the 30% that could go either way from one election to the next.
And how does this vileness play in the Land of Moderation? I think the answer is obvious. Moderation values fairness. Moderation values balance. Moderation values respect. And above all, Moderation values human decency.
Moderation is repelled by Hate Talk® and always will be. Hate Talk® drives moderates into the waiting arms of the Other Side.
So let's take a few moments to remember, reflect upon, and appreciate the contribution of three previously unsung heros of the Landslide:
- Mr. Bill O'Reilly
- Mr. Sean Hannity
- Mr. Rush Limbaugh
Thank you, gentlemen.
