They say a picture is worth a thousand words. That may be true. However, I find this set of four photos to be priceless for what they represent...
These images are reported to have been taken at the Obama victory rally, Tuesday night in Chicago. They where not taken by me. I truly love those photos though. I believe they are a symbol of hope for our future. That they represent the fall of race as an issue between people. That they highlight that with each generation, those who will allow race to stand between them will become fewer and fewer.
That said, after I first saw them as such a symbol of hope, I knew from experience that there are those out there who will take such and pervert it into a symbol of fear and hate. How could anyone do such? It's rather easy. Look at people like Bill O'Rielly and Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh. When they see these photos, though I doubt anyone but Limbaugh will be brazen enough to voice it, I can tell you what they'll see and what they might say; if not on the air, then to their friends...
"Besides clearly being staged as a liberal photo-op, designed to promote the liberal delusions propagated by Obama and others like him, these images do represent the future. Just not the future that you might think. They're not a symbol of hope, they're an omen of things to come. Of working-class whites giving their hard earned cash to the Obama government, who then turns around and gives that cash to lazy minorities under the Obama plan of socialism. Whether it be through tax credits that they haven't earned, or welfare. It's the first sign of Obama's 'spread the wealth' plan designed not to benefit all citizens, but designed to benefit the blacks and the Latinos at the cost of the whites. It's economic revenge for slavery and segregation. It's truly a symbol of what's to come under O-Bam-Uh."
That's the kind of twisted vile bullshit the Right Wing will say when they see those pictures. They won't see the hope. They won't see the positive symbolism of race no longer being an issue. They won't see the progress from generation to generation. They'll do what they do. They'll twist things and distort them and turn a symbol of hope into a symbol of the apocalypse. They'll turn something pure and good into something purely evil for their own purposes. It's what they've always done; it's what they'll continue to do, as long as their are ignorant people out there whom they appeal to on the darkest, most raw and primitive levels of hate and fear.
My hope in pointing out and hypothesizing what the Right Wing whack-jobs would say is that I can deny them that ability. By predicting their fear-and-hate-based reactions and comments, I cut them off and prevent them from being able to say such. If this blog post, if these images, run across the desk of any of those Right Wing nuts, they'll now be unable to proclaim such. If anything, they'll embrace the images as they are: hopeful symbols. If only to counter my belief in what they would normally do. Consider it a form of reverse psychology.
