I have posted diaries in the past regarding my wing-nut family. I have refrained from the obvious gloating over Barack's win, because that is just not my style, even though I put up with comments of socialist, communist, etc during the election. Imagine my disgust when I popped onto myspace this morning to see my niece has posted a new blog. I have included it below for viewing pleasure (yes, that is a snark)
Follow me below the jump for her blog entitled "A bleak day in history indeed...."
My niece is a staunch, conservative, proud member of the religious right. Her hypocricy in all things never ceases to amaze me and we have had numerous confrontations regarding it as well. She can be very self centered and judgemental (as some 16 year olds have a tendency to be from time to time). Her rantings echo the same tones as the minister at the church her family attends. I grew up in that church and my husband and I attended a few times when we moved back to Jacksonville, but have since left because of the politicizing from the pulpit.
that comment about how the founding fathers would be proud to see that two hundred years later, the dream and the government they created by the people and for the people still lives on.....
here's a little newsflash.
The Framers actually designed the Constitution to give limited power to the central goverment.
That power was a lot less than what you are proposing or intending.
And then your comment about "patience, america. change will come if you have patience."
i have a feeling you're going to be exactly like Jefferson, who, just like you, proposed some changes- his big campaign slogan was all about change-until he got into the White House and realized that, oh, John Adams knew what he was doing. I have a feeling that will be you, Mr. President-Elect. You will get into office and realize that George Bush might actually have had a clue.
Or, i suppose, you could start socializing everything, and slowly but surely take away the checks and balances that make our system of government so great- because you do realize that the idea of checks and balances is almost a moot point. We now have a Democratic Congress and a Democratic President- who will fill the Supreme Court with Democratic Justices, and establish a Democratic Cabinet. Now, i know the Framers didn't establish political parties, and that george Washington even warned against forming them in his farewell address, but they didn't understand that political parties are what helped to make the checks and balances function. But, if everything is controlled by one party, then that party can pass whatever it wants to, and the minority can't stop it.
So, while you claim that our forefathers would be proud- the truth is, they are probably rolling in their graves right now.
Oh, and you also surely have heard Russia's beautiful greeting as well. They have already stated that they believe you are a wimp and will do nothing to stop them.
Didn't your wonderful running mate say that in the first six months of your office, you would be tested? Very well could be so. And if Russia threatens to do anything, what will you do? If Russia just so happens to, i don't know, become buddy-buddy with Iran and attack us- will you stop it? Or will you just continue to file our men out, which accentuates the belief that Americans are cowards and will not fight?
What about Israel? Christian man that you claim to be, surely you must know that the God you claim to serve says specifically regarding Israel, "whoever blesses you will be blessed, and whoever curses you will be cursed." Will we be blessed or cursed, Mr. President-Elect?
Do you really know what you have stepped up to, Mr. President-Elect? Are you sure that you have what it takes to lead a world power? With the eyes of the entire world watching- will you be able to do it? Or will you fall flat on your face? Will you maintain America's backbone? Will you uphold the values that our country has so dearly held onto up until the past few decades? Will you remember that you are supposed to serve the people- not gain power for yourself?
Personally, Mr. President-Elect, i think that you are a lesson for Americans. I think that you are proof of what happens when the Good Lord finally "turn[s] them over to their sin." And i think that, maybe, just maybe, four years of your leadership is the reality check this country needs.
Are you ready, Mr. President-Elect? Because the whole world is watching- and i guarantee you that you do not command their respect.
So as we say hello to you, Mr. President-Elect, we also say goodbye to the country we have loved and admired for the past two hundred years.
It's a bleak day in history, indeed.
I am at work today, but am already busy formulating my response to her. I refuse to let this sit out there without an intelligent, educated reply. I was just so pissed when I read it, I had to share it with my friends at Daily Kos and get their reactions as well.....
