Please write in on change.gov opposing the possible appointment of Lawrence Summers as Treasury Secretary. The NYT reported that he is one of the candidates under consideration. A couple of years ago Summers, then president of Harvard University, gained notoriety by expressing the opinion that girls may not have equally innate ability in science and engineering. First of all, this is false because studies show that K-12 girls are scoring high in math exams. One of the problems in the economy is that disparity in hiring, job level and salary for women, even after women obtain college degrees and postgraduate degrees. This disparity continues on into Social Security, which is based on earning. It affects the ability to carry a mortgage, since the salary difference a man and a woman is enough to purchase at least one very good home. A Cabinet Secretary has the authority to appoint many high level officials. How can Summers be trusted to include women as critical path advisers given his remarks?
