I'd like to see the Obama Doctrine early on. Actually, I'd like to see several of them. Bush's only "doctrine" was an absurdity. If the USA can attack any nation that might become a threat at some point in the future, then the USA can attack any nation on earth whenever it wants, for no real reason. But that's what you'd expect from Bush, so we can move on now.
The first Obama Doctrine I'd like to see is the following:
"We will not allow terrorist attacks to interfere with any negotiations we are involved in, and we will require nations that are also involved in those negotiations to agree to this same condition."
This is especially important for potential Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. By agreeing to this beforehand, we would take away all the power that terrorists have had in the past to stop such negotiations, as well as rendering any attacks they might attempt worthless. In fact, adopting this doctrine might make it difficult for terrorist leaders to recruit those who actually risk their lives or kill themselves in such attacks, since few of the leaders seem willing to sacrifice themselves.
I don't know as much about Obama as I'd like, but I hope he's the kind of leader who actually thinks about these possibilities, and makes intelligent choices, rather than what we've seen from Bush. However, it must be said that no other U.S. President has realized how useful this kind of doctrine could be. We've seen what U.S. might can do, now I hope we see what U.S. intelligence can accomplish.
