After reading everyone's regarding the efficacy of pressuring Republican senators, I think there's a consensus that out-of-state pressure should be channeled through activists in the target state, or it does no good at all. Also, it seems that pressuring Republicans Olympia Snowe, Arlen Specter, Dick Lugar, Mel Martinez, Judd Gregg, George Voinovich, and Kay Bailey Hutchison, might be worth the effort, depending on the issue, and to a lessor extent, Susan Collins. There seems to be a feeling that Sen. Arlen Spector would be particularly vulnerable to pressure, because Obama carried Pennsylvania by such a large margin. Additionally, even Senators like Tom Coburn and Orrin Hatch will work with Democrats if an issue is near and dear to their hearts. But most importantly, continual pressure on Spector, Snowe and Lugar could deny the Republicans their filibuster.
Any comments on the above?
