I am astonished and outraged that 35 GOP members of the Senate could play so fast and loose with the American economy. I have not always been a fan of Detroit automakers and their obstinate refusal to consider higher mileage standards. But the $14 billion bailout that 35 Republicans scuttled tonight wasn't about these companies' mistakes. It was about trying to shore up two companies with millions of workers. It was about trying to shore up our economy. It was about taking SOME measures to try to reform these industries. It was about companies, and unions, and Democrats (with a few Republicans), and even the worst White House ever coming together to try to save this country, our economy, and our workers.
Except the infamous 35.
I am shocked, saddened and deeply disturbed. So.... I'd like to wreck them. Read below:
I suggest a "Wreck the Senate 35" protest. It would work like this:
- We take up a collection to buy 35 extremely junked junkers, ideally American. If we have extra dough, we can pick up a few for the House GOP, as well.
- We paint the names of these 35, starting with the Mitch-mobile, on these cars, one per Senator.
- We invite every auto worker and every member of the press we can find to attend the festivities.
- Then we tow them to Congress and "donate" them to the fine senators' campaigns (value $0). Ideally on Christmas Eve.
- We let these people know that the Kos community will not stop until every one of those 35 who wrecked the U.S. economy are themselves wrecked, out of office, out of a job, seeking their own personal bailouts.
Too bad unelected senators don't qualify for unemployment. Deal with it.
- No violence. Nothing illegal. Just a highly visual (for the TV), highly symbolic, highly effective message that lets every single American know exactly who is responsible for the pain we are all feeling now and going to feel for some time to come.
Any other ideas?
I don't believe that for the health of our country, the health of our economy, or the health of our democracy that these people should go unchallenged.
I'm tired of them. I'm tired of people who are trying to destroy this country.
I'm tired of America burning while Rush squeals.
Let's do something.
Wreck the 35.
