Sorry for the short diary, but this just made my blood boil when I read this story this morning, so I thought I would share it with the rest of you.
$14 billion to save US manufacturing might be too much for Alabama's congrrssional delegation, but a couple of billion, just for Mobile, AL alone seems to be just what the doctor ordered for the congressional hypocrites from down yonder.
Among the list of things that just the city of Mobile is looking for, are new funds fgor highways and bridges, money for a new power plant and loads of other goodies.
The city of Mobile alone is looking for $1.14 billion. There is no word on exactly what the rest of the state is loking for in handouts, but the article indicates that it will be expansive.
According to Mobile County Commissioner Mike Dean, "This is great news for us, it's like Santa Claus came to the county."
Besides asking for additional federal largess, Alabama is currently one of the highest recipients of federal tax dollars- with $1.71 coming back to the state for every dollar spent.
Ney York, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Michigan, Connecticut, Illinois and California are amongst the states recieving the least based upon the contribution of their taxpayers to the federal treasury.
