Tonight on Countdown, Keith Olbermann discussed Obama's invitation to Rick Warren to give the convocation at the inaugural. He had as his guest, John Harwood, CNBC's political correspondent. After watching that segment, I found myself seething. I was angry, not at Obama or Rick Warren, but at Mr. Harwood's commentary.
More after the fold.
John Harwood was actually serious when he said, ""He [Obama] is an advocate of gay and lesbian rights. There is, incidentally going to be a place in his parade for gays and lesbians..."
Imagine if he had said, "Obama is an advocate of Latino rights, they will be busing the tables at his inaugural dinner."
I think GLBT Americans are looking for more than a place for their representative band to play in the parade. After Proposition 8 (and 102 here in Arizona) we are finding many citizens are seeing themselves as effectively being pushed into a nice box, to be opened every 4 years. I am suspecting the political pundits like Mr. Harwood haven't yet realized that there is an angry constituency out there, one that isn't going to go away.
It sounds to me as if Mr. Harwood needs to be educated. And Mr. Olbermann, why were you not shocked by that callous analysis of the issue?
