When he was Secretary of Energy in the Clinton administration, Bill Richardson leaked Wen Ho Lee’s name to the press in connection with nuclear secrets being forwarded to China. Richardson accused Dr. Lee of espionage, and ruined this man’s life. It was because of Richardson that Dr. Lee was subjected to NINE MONTHS of solitary confinement (and we rail against Guantanamo) – his name and reputation destroyed.
So heinous was Richardson’s disregard for this man and the stripping of Dr. Lee’s rights that it prompted Judge James Parker to make an unprecedented apology to Dr. Lee when he was eventually released. Judge Parker went even further – he accused Richardson’s Department of Energy of misleading him and of bringing dishonor to the United States.
And for remorse? Richardson STILL stands behind his heinous acts and everything he said against Dr. Lee, even though President Bill Clinton and the New York Times have both publicly apologized to Dr. Lee. And yet Richardson goes even further – he also criticized Judge Parker for making his apology and said the Judge erred when he said he was misled. Unbelievable.
Make no mistake; the first scandal to come out of Obama’s administration will come out of Richardson’s shop. It's an outrage that Bill Richardson got an appointment after how he ruined a man’s life and stripped him of his rights to due process.
