This campaign is so different from past campaigns. And the comparisons to the 60s keep coming. Back in the day, as us old folks call it, there were rock stars that lined up behind politicians -- RFK primarily. some endorsements were publicly sought.
Today the music has changed. But the hope for a better day has not. And the realization that you can make a difference is empowering.
This is not much of a diary, but follow below the flip.
I ran across this song on Youtube.
I am blown away with how hot and energetic this movement for Obama is. It is new. It is fresh. And it is real.
This may really happen folks. I hate to get my hopes up too high...(although Obama would say that there is nothing wrong with that.) But I've seen the way the man works here in Illinois, and he always comes up with something new and surprising. Some new endorsement comes. Or a new rally that inspires a few more people. Or a turn of phrase that makes you smile or, better, you want to take action to correct a problem.
Personally, I already believe that we have changed the conversation for the better in this country. There is just a little bit of a spring in my step and a tilt upwards of the head. A little bit of a burden has been lifted. Not because of Obama. But because Obama brought to my attention just how good things can be when you just feel a little different. When you remind yourself that there are people around you that are just like you in many ways. that people have your back. And you can take small steps to help out in the community. To vote for change. To get over yourself and look to help others. I know that sounds so corny.
We've lived so long in the darkness, we seem to have forgotten how to be civil. How to be responsible. How to take on the seriousness of climate change. How to be a world citizen in a new age.
I hope a new day is dawning.
