Hi everyone. I am a trough and through Obama supporter. I go through my day every since the primaries began and cannot think of anything else I have ever been more exicted about in my political life than Barack Obama's candidacy. Not even Howard Dean.
So it was startingly upsetting to me yesterday to hear what was being reported yesterday regarding Barack Obama as president by a Nobel laureate: http://www.breitbart.com/...
Here's the text:
If Barack Obama becomes the next US president he will surely be assassinated, British Nobel literature laureate Doris Lessing predicted in a newspaper interview published here Saturday.
Obama, who is vying to become the first black president in US history, "would certainly not last long, a black man in the position of president. They would murder him," Lessing, 88, told the Dagens Nyheter daily.
Lessing, who won the 2007 Nobel Literature Prize, said it might be better if Obama's Democratic rival Hillary Clinton were to succeed in her bid to become the first woman president of the United States.
"The best thing would be if they (Clinton and Obama) were to run together. Hillary is a very sharp lady. It might be calmer if she were to win, and not Obama," she said.
My concern is clear:
My heart as well as millions of other americans are invested in this man and his political future. He has transformed the american political landscape.
I don't know what I would do if something were to happen to him like this Nobel laureate is predicting.
Its probably not good to talk about this, but perhaps it can be talked about tastefully.
What can Barack Obama do to ensure his safety?
Is the secret service enough?
UPDATE:
Im surprised at all the negative comments.... (0 / 0)
Its not just this person. I have heard it from many people, especially black people who are sincerely concerned for him given the racist attitudes that have prevailed in america for a long time.
Im not arguing that its a reason not to vote for him.
But I do think that his security is of utmost importance and should be.
This has also been asked of michelle and barack obama by several news anchors during interviews.
It seems to me to be a completely legitimate topic.
Its not a capitulation to fear, just something that should be discussed reasonably.
Most of you are just being blanket dissmissive of this.
But American history tells a different story.
