This diary might be a little late, the primaries are over in Alabama and Obama won, so this is old news considering these numbers have been out since Tuesday, but maybe these numbers might be new to some.
Tuesday was a big day in Alabama, tornadoes ripped the northern part of the state killing 5, the worst though occured in Tennesse. Another big occurance, one that was overshadowed by the tornadoes and for good cause, was the fact that Obama recieved more votes than either republican running. The last small occurance was that my entire family, including me, caught a nasty strain of the flu and is the reason why this diary is late. Tuesday I was excited and anxious to write this diary, Wednesday I could not have cared less with a fever hovering around 102 degrees.
Now for the reason for this diary. It will be seen as a candidate diary, and it is. There is no excuse, I am not trying to hide my feelings for Obama anymore. Edwards is out and Obama is in, although I would still vote for Edwards and Kucinich if I could. I would also like to say that I actually like Hillary and would vote for her in the general, but Obama is my candidate now and I will support him untill supporting him hurts the Democratic cause.
The numbers I mentioned ealier are suprising, I still really cannot believe them but I watched the totals coming in all night and these numbers are legit. So here they are:
Democratic Candidates
Candidate # of votes % of total # of delegates
Obama 302,684 56.07% 20
Clinton 226,454 41.95% 21
Edwards 7,933 1.47% 0
Biden 1,193 0.22% 0
Richardson 1,046 0.19% 0
Dodd 529 0.10% 0
Republicans
Candidate # of votes % of total # of delegates
Huckabee 230,608 40.65% 20
McCain 210,989 37.19% 16
Romney 103,295 18.21% 0
Paul 15,454 2.72% 0
Giuliani 2,224 0.39% 0
Thompson 1,929 0.34% 0
Hunter 399 0.07% 0
Tancredo 95 0.02% 0
Those are alot of numbers and I cannot get them lined up, I am sorry for the eyesore. Now for the reasons for this diary and why I endorse Obama then and now. Look at the total votes for Obama, 302,684. That is more than Huckabee at 230,608 and McCain at 210,989. Now 302,684 beats 230,608 and 210,989 everytime. So Obama beat all the republican candidates that they threw at us.
The reason why I want Obama to recieve the nomination is for this, Hillary did not recieve the number of votes that Obama did and she did not beat both republican frontrunners. Her number is 226,454 which does beat McCain at 210,989 but not Huckabee at 230,608. I know some will say that Huckabee does not really stand a chance getting the nomination and she did beat McCain who is the frontrunner. Also the southern republicans will come out in droves in the general to ensure that AL. stays red. That might be true, but these are the numbers for this day, the polls were open and Obama won.
Let me repeat that, a black man named Obama won the Alabama primaries, recieving more votes than any other candidate be it republican or Democratic. He carried the state, won it all. This is the 50 state idea of Dean, and this is why Obama will win the general election. Heck if he can win here in the heart of dixie, he can win anywhere.
