After last night's Chesapeake Massacre, I watched Hillary's stump speech in Texas. So obviously a hands-over-ears, "la-la-la-can't hear you," reality-denying moment. Still I expected to hear a congratulations to Senator Obama on his victories, but none was forthcoming.
Does this mean anything? After all, there's no requirement to offer congratulations to your opponent after a defeat. Still, to me it's become a marker, an indicator of the character of these candidates.
So I found Hillary's inability to be gracious telling. How much more, well, human would it have been to say something like, "Listen, it's no secret I'm fighting for my political life. My opponent is formidable and my path to the nomination is steeper than ever. But before you decide for good, please listen to my ideas - I have many of them and they are substantive." Or something like that. No tears necessary.
Instead she just reinforces the idea that she is a cold, calculating political animal. And with no congratulations to her opponent on a difficult night, classless as well.
I don't want her near my White House.
