Of course, this is premature; but it's worth consideration, if Obama wins the nomination. Her qualifications: knowledgeable, articulate, quick-witted, experienced, practical, potential longevity (good health, political viability in NY).
Disclosure: I support Obama for President.
In any case Harry Reid must go, as most of us will agree. I think that we would generally prefer Russ Finegold, but a case can be made for the idea that Hillary deserves a historical first of some magnitude - i.e., first female Senate Majority Leader.
Can Reid be discarded and Hillary selected? I think that she would have some support; so, as in many political matters, it probably comes down to a serious grass-roots campaign. (I bet that Obama would promise to help.)
She has the persona and the administrative skills to head the staff organization that runs such programs nowadays. Skill and experience in 'Triangulation' is probably an advantage in such a position. Plus, I think that most of us do learn from experience, so she should realize by now that Carville-type idiots are not helpful in developing or moving an agenda.
Politically, we won't know until we get there, but at least she won't need to show her macho commander-in-chiefness as Majority Leader. Her past positions demonstrate to me that she is more progressive at heart than her current campaign might indicate.
Related to that - one of the side-benefits is that she couldn't support Mark Penn in the style to which he is accustomed from campaign funds. As a new and involved political punditocracy, we could try to keep him out of the public trough as a conflict-of-interest for Hillary.
What do y'all think? Wrong idea? Premature? Start now to draft her for the Majority Leader position?
