The Clinton campaign, Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton have used a variety of excuses to dismiss Obama's huge wins.
It's the black people.
It's the caucuses.
It's the red states.
It's the latte-drinking over-educated liberals.
You can add another one now. Weather.
Ben Smith at Politico has this quote from Mark Penn rationalizing why Clinton lost Maryland, Virginia and DC so horribly:
Bad weather would be adverse for a lot of Senator Clinton's voters who are senior citizens
Well, at least this excuse doesn't insult blacks, people in small states, educated people, caucus-voters, Westerners and a slew of other people.
It just strengthens the meme (which I think is a little unjustified) that it's old people that are voting for Clinton, apparently enough senior citizens who can't get out in bad weather that it hurt her chances.
I understand that yes, indeed, there are senior citizens that can't go out to vote in bad weather. My own in-laws fit that (though they voted for Obama in Utah). It is indeed difficult for someone of advancing age to go out in bad weather, it is for many of us younger folk too.
But to use it as an excuse?
I thought some of the parodies used on this site were absurd... but the Clinton campaign is beginning to become their own parody.
It would be better, I suspect, for the people at the top of Clinton's campaign staff to stop using excuses at all. It's starting to look desperate.
