I figured I'd take a break from the candidate diaries today. I feel like escaping from the sad reality of our current Congress as well. It is Valentines day after all. It's the day Hallmark has been waiting for. The day where men and women buy the same cliche gifts for their significant others. Chocolates, flowers and the type of present that a woman like me cringes at....jewelry. What would I want for Valentines day? Hmmmmmmmm........
As an aspiring musician, one thing in life that never ceases to affect me emotionally is music. Since I'm single this Valentines Day, I've decided to treat myself and my fellow Kossacks to a diary filled with my favorite love songs. Here you go......
Elliott Smith "Between the Bars"
I've been listening to Elliott Smith for a number of years and did have the chance to see him live quite a few times before he passed. There are many sweet songs by Elliott like "Say Yes", but I chose this one......
The Beatles, "Long Long Long"
I would have loved to have a live version of George playing this but I couldn't find one :( Some people might prefer some of the earlier love songs by the Beatles like, "Love Me Do". Some people might prefer John Lennon's later love songs like, "Woman". "Long Long Long" has always been my favorite Beatles song...enjoy.......
Big Star "Thirteen"
This is the only video I could find of Alex Chilton playing this one. It does cut off at the end...but it's still worth it to me. Maybe I'm a child at heart....I love this song....
There are plenty of other wonderful love songs that I wish I could show you. Townes Van Zandt's "She Came and She Touched Me", Bonnie Prince Billy's, "After I Made Love to You" or Blaze Foley's, "Picture Cards Can't Picture You" are beautiful. Take a minute away from the candidate diaries and share your favorite love songs......
