This morning I went to see Obama speak at the Midwest Airlines Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I went with a few friends, who are Independents and Republicans. The speech was great and, as expected, the crowd was diverse. Obama's speech electrified the crowd and all my friends enjoyed it, and subsequently said they would be voting for Obama in the primary, Republicans included. However, my Latino friend, who had previously shown strong support for Obama, withdrew his vote and said he would be voting for Hillary. Join me below the fold for more.
My Latino friend said he would not vote for Obama because of his immigration plan. Here is his reasoning:
Hillary said she will get rid of the guest worker program and Obama, at least per his website, does not explicitly say that he will get rid of the guest worker program.
I have heard a lot of arguments that Latinos aren't voting for Obama because of the racial tensions between African Americans and Latinos. Maybe it is simply just immigration policy positions that are driving away Latino voters?
More importantly, how can I get my friend to vote for Obama?
