John Lewis is my congressman from Atlanta.
Last fall when he endorsed Senator Clinton, I wrote him expressing my disappointment that he did not wait to give Senator Obama a chance in the primaries.
I did not hear back from Representative Lewis.
I have written to him in years past on issues such as civil rights, hate crimes, the war in Iraq, and I have always gotten a polite response.
I have written Mr. Lewis again regarding supporting Barack Obama. My letter is below.
Dear Mr. Lewis,
For the good of our country and our party, I strongly urge you to support and vote as a superdelegate for Barack Obama to the Democratic Convention.
Senator Obama has the judgement and experience to bring out troops home from Iraq and stop us from wasting billions of dollars there.
Senator Obama represents a real change in direction in this country and he can appeal to a broad swath of the electorate.
I realize you feel some loyalty to the Clintons, but you must realize what a polarizing figure Hillary is and the real sense of a political movement that Barack Obama represents.
Georgia voted overwhelmingly for Sen. Obama. I have made donations and phone calls in support of Barack Obama.
I respect you Mr. Lewis, but I feel it is imperative that you not vote to overturn the will of the people should Sen. Obama receive the majority of the pledged delegates.
History is being made again, and I hope you will once again make us proud of your part in it.
Regards,
David Lender
