I salute you. I salute you in your unwavering pride in your nation. You are indeed the true American heroes, standing steadfast and resolute with your nation and all that it stands for. While some would proclaim their pride to be tempered, you do not. When some would suggest that their pride could be greater, yours could not be greater nor less. Let us examine where these unamericans and traitors fall short, yet you stand tall.
+ America's willingness to engage in questionable wars, of which you are proud, yet they are not.
+ America as a nation that tortures, of which you are really proud, yet they deny their pride here.
+ A nation that still periodically kills gays, blacks, latinos simply because they are gay, black, or latino, of which you could not be less proud, yet they waiver.
+ A nation that ranks near the bottom of industrialized nations in infant morality, literacy, poverty - a measure of pride, no question, but they question.
+ A nation that allows corporations and elected officials to willfully break the law without consequence - who couldn't be prouder? The unamericans, that's who.
+ A nation where american citizens can be raped and corporations granted permission to cover up the crime - only a traitor could not be proud of this.
Oh, the list is endless, but that pride is of such magnitude and depth that you, fine patriots, shall hold our nation together. Should we some day invade Switzerland to secure our precious cheese rights, you shall not be less proud. Should we proclaim all immigrants to be enemies of the state and rounded up in boxcars, your pride will be undeterred. Should president Scalia grant torture as a valid interrogation technique for police, you will stand up and affirm that your pride remains at 11. For no matter how depraived or mighty our nation and its citizenry should be, you will always be at the very limit of pride, with no more pride to give and never giving any for any reason.
It is great comfort that in the face of anything that America should become you will stand forth and declare that you really don't give a damn, that this nation is what it always was and always will be - as good as you ever hoped it would be for you are both proud and more than proud. Your lack of vision in what we could become, how we might be greater than we are will never impact the public discourse. You will stand as a towering reminder that we should not be disappointed in any aspect of American life and culture, that we should not mind how we treat our fellow citizens, or those around the world, that we are now, as before, as always will be, as great as we ever will be and ever were. We have reached the great plateau - the very state that we all individually, regardless of race, creed, gender, or economic situation have always sought. We accept our state and never aspire for anything more, never asking more of our country, never expecting better - for we are now perfect. We are perfectly proud. We are Americans.
