Right off the bat I will put your mind at ease by telling you that these kids aren't in any physical danger or starving or anything.
(Although I do like to tell my niece Alex that she looks like I can buy her for 70 cents a day when she throws a fit about brushing her hair, then she yells back "I'm not 70 cents a day!" and relents to having her hair brushed.)
However, they are in danger of having their little hearts broken if Dan Scripps isn't their next State Representative and I don't want to see their fragile little hearts get broken!
Just look at these precious little faces and tell me if you'd want to disillusion them about politics long before they're even old vote either...
Alexandria is on the left, Ty's the little guy with the cheezy grin on his face and as you can see, they're both proud future Democratic voters!
Alex and Ty have been hardcore Scripps supporters for over a year. You might scoff at a only a year and think of your 30 year history of supporting Senator Kennedy or whatnot... but a year is 1/8th of Alex's entire life and 1/5 of Ty's life.
A year is a really long time for them! So cut them some slack already, will ya???
(Jeez... You Kossacks are one tough crowd to impress when it comes to politics!)
Alex and Ty have spent many weekends knocking on doors and manning Dan's local campaign headquarters with their Auntie MichiganGirl and Uncle AikoAdam. They are even on Dan's campaign staff!
They hold an extremely important position and they take their duties seriously. They are official parade candy throwers and let me tell ya... Nobody throws candy at people like these two. They can throw candy at a crowd like nobody's business!
They are hopeful that they'll even get official "Scripps for State House" STAFF t-shirts this summer... but Dan will need to get enough campaign contributions to make their dreams of campaign STAFF t-shirts come true!
And here's where you can help... Dan's going to win in November no matter what, but his campaign needs money if he's going to be able to keep his candy-throwers in t-shirts and candy.
(There is a nasty three-way race on the repug side and they're ripping their party apart... and I couldn't be happier about it, because Dan's going to destroy them all.)
I know, I know! You're wondering:
"Why don't you or a member of your family just give Dan the money to buy the kid's t-shirts, MichiganGirl?"
I don't blame you for wondering about that... It's a good question. I'd ask the same thing if I were in your shoes, but I have a very good answer for that, the thing is...
Back row, left to right: Glen (One of our Democratic County Commissioners), Mom (MichiganGirl's Mom), DAN SCRIPPS (who will be the best State Rep Michigan's 101st district has ever had!), Linda (a woman of boundless energy) and MichiganGirl (Yup, that's me!).
Front row, left to right: Rick (one of the funniest people you'll ever meet), Jamie (Dan's witty, charming, beautiful wife), Ty (MichiganGirl's nephew), Ty and Alex's Dad (MichiganGirl's brother and all around good guy) and Alex (MichiganGirl's gorgeous niece.)
So as you can see, we're a pro-Scripps family. Unfortunately, the State of Michigan has these pesky things called "election finance laws" and one of those stupid "laws" says you can only give a State House candidate a piddling $500 over a campaign cycle... Yes, you heard that right.
We're only allowed to give a candidate a measly $500 over the entire 2 years of the campaign cycle! So basically, everyone you see in that picture aside from Alex and Ty has already met their paltry limit a long time ago. $5 here, $10 there... it adds up over the course of 2 years... We can't help it that we can't get Alex and Ty their t-shirts!
So even though we WANT to give Dan money to buy his candy-throwing staff the t-shirts they so rightly deserve and have worked their little candy throwing arms to the bone for... the stoopid State finance laws say we can't. The "man" won't let us help Dan keep his staff appropriately clothed and that's just not right!
The man is trying to keep us down people!!!
Are we going to just let them get away with this travesty or are we going to do something about it???
So please help me keep two very excited little Democratic supporters happy and there is no doubt in my mind that if they get their t-shirts and Dan Scripps as their State Representative... these two little Democratic supporters will one day become Democratic voters!
So come on people, help me flip the "man" the bird and give Dan some money!
(Here is a link to Dan's website and this is the link to donate through paypal, for even greater convenience.)
Large donations are obviously great, but small donations are good too. (T-shirts and candy don't really cost that much and $5, $10 or $20 can go a really long way in a State House race.) Dan is a great guy and he's not at all greedy... I bet he'd even be happy with 70 cents a day!
Here... I'll even post a picture of Alex with messy hair in case you need the extra inspiration to donate...
We can call it:
"Alex's 70 cents a day fundraiser for Dan Scripps!"
Sow bout it Kossacks? Help me out? These kiddos have earned their STAFF t-shirts and they'll need your help to get them, damnit!
