Whew.
The other day I wrote a diary, "Damn! Turns out I might HAVE TO vote for Hillary", about a dilemma I was having:
For a few years now, I've been taking a neighbor to our polling place as she's been losing her sight.
In the past, like when it was a choice for mayor on NYC in 2001, I pulled the lever for Anthony Wiener (for myself) and she insisted on Mark Green (this was during the primaries).
Usually however, we are in total agreement.
Now, I'm not so sure....
More below the fold...
My fears were based on our last conversation (and after all my pronouncements that I would never vote for Hillary) that I might actually have to vote for HRC... even if only on behalf of my neighbor.
The last time we spoke, it was obvious she was a Hillary supporter and by what we're seeing on the campaign trail, older women are some of HRC's biggest support, which I completely understand (and feel I don't have a right to try and change her mind).
Anyway, she was shocked to learn I was thinking about going towards Obama. She was even more shocked that I didn't believe the "rumors" about him.
I, of course, got very animated in my attempt to dissuade her from believing the rumors but since that day, I haven't talked to her about politics (other then to confirm I'd be taking her to the polls on February 5th).
I even fantasized openly about my "cheating", which I was obviously kidding about yet of course some got on their high horses and lectured me how bad that would be of me.
Now before everyone jumps on me. I will do WHATEVER she tells me to do.
Yet, I have been totally fantasizing about how easy it would be for me to pull the lever for either Edwards or Obama. She's blind as a bat now!
I WON'T.
But, boy am I tempted.
That's how much I can't stand HRC.
Obviously, I was kidding. Anyway...
...catastrophe averted!
I knocked on my neighbor's door yesterday to ask if she had decided who she was voting for (with the intent on giving it one reasonable shot at convincing her to vote for Obama instead of Hillary) and wouldn't you know it, she's not voting for Hillary!
She's for Barack Obama!! Seriously. Thinks he's wonderful.
Now, I wasn't able to figure out what happened between the last we spoke and now, but I suspect some of her friends in the neighborhood must have set her straight about the ugly rumors about Obama.
She didn't even remember the rumors at first, when I was asking what happened to change her mind.
All I got from her was, "Just because I'm a woman doesn't mean I think she'd be a good President. I don't like her one bit."
I decided not to go into my schpeal after that, content that I will never have to pull the lever for Hillary Clinton!
So, on top of the 4 or 5 people who I'd already convinced to vote of Barack Obama instead of Hillary, I can now add my wonderful neighbor.
There's something magical happening. Can you feel it?
