Remember in 2001, when Grandpa McCain was seriously considering bolting the republican party of Bushbots to become a democrat or independent?
This from Josh Marshall of Crooks and Liars:
Josh Marshall noted this morning," I was wondering when this would come up. As a lot of us remember, John McCain was very close to leaving the Republican party in 2001 and becoming either a Democrat or, much more likely, an independent a la Jim Jeffords who would caucus with the Democrats. The Hill gives the story another shake and talks to folks like Daschle and others who were in on the negotiations."
Mitt Romney suddenly has a case against the old curmudgeon, and he's finally using it to gain some traction this weekend. It appears to be working. I think it will be even more meaningful to the democratic nominee leading up to the fall election. Imagine being able to ask McCain about the "situation" that lead him to two months of actual negotiations with then Senate Minority leader Tom Daschle who was approached by John Weaver, McCain's political strategist at the time:
"Democrats had contacted Jeffords and then-Sen. Lincoln Chafee (R-R.I.) in the early months of 2001 about switching parties, but in McCain’s case, they said, it was McCain’s top strategist who came to them." (emphasis added)
McCain an honorable man? Well, I suppose if one thinks that looking after one's own personal interests at any cost, especially at the cost of the constituents who elected him is honorable, then have at it. McCain has as much integrity and honesty as the other two hallmarks of republican values, Mitt Romney, who has sold his soul to the highest bidders for the last two years, and George Bush who has sold his soul for personal gain since his first day of birth. Victory at any cost, the cost being personal integrity, honesty and self respect seems to be a republican virtue. The three stooges of honor and integrity...George Bush, John McCain and Mitt Romney. What a team of imbeciles; republican Bushbots must be so proud. Is it any wonder Ann Coulter said she would vote for Hillary Clinton if McCain is the nominee? Even a bottom dwelling cockroach like Coulter can see the writing on the wall, once in a while.
"Bring it on," Grandpa McCain and explain to your idiotic following in the middle of a national debate in November how you negotiated to bolt your party to become a democrat or independent..see how that sits with your Bushbot base!
