I am writing on dailykos for a class. If I were not I would be as far away from this site as Michelle Obama is from patriotism. Our class grade on these blogs is improved by the number of comments our post receives so normally the appropriate thing to do is write the most inflammatory thing possible. Attack the paultards, make a joke about Hillary crying, steal something from Wonkette. And while that is how I was planning to go about this post I actually got caught up in being impressed with someone.
After being verbally (and hilariously) strangled by Chris Matthews on Hardball Texas Senator Kirk Watson came back with an impressive response of self-deprecation and charm on his blog
So . . . That really happened.
The dude got killed. The (slightly insane) Chris Matthews, fairly, made a fool of him on national television. Though after reading this post Watson comes off as a guy who messed up, not an idiot. I may never think of Kirk Watson again in my life and this post oozes of spin control. But its, frankly, charming.
While Watson gives a nice little list (which I'm assuming is currently being forwarded to Matthews) of Obama's accomplishments he spends most of the time acknowledging his mistake rather than counterattacking Matthews.
The rational part of me knows that this is an attempt at damage control but reading it I realize that damage control is something that has to happen sometimes. The man made a mistake but he took it like a gentleman. It's refreshing to see a politician (as obscure as he may be to me) who is willing to look at himself rather than firing off bullets at his adversaries.
In the meantime, let’s not lose focus on what’s important in this election. It’s not my stunning televised defeat in "Stump the Chump." Thankfully, it has nothing at all to do with me.
