A few folks have mentioned that Barack Obama does not have a magic wand to wave and rid the country of its ills. But I disagree, Barack Obama does have a magic wand. Hillary Clinton has a magic wand. John McCain has a magic wand. George Bush has a magic wand. I have a magic wand and yes, you have a magic wand.
This magic wand is the power we have over our own life. Using it, we can rid ourselves of racism, sexism, lack of education, xenophobia, "and other constipations that our fool flesh is heir to" (hat tip Lawrence Ferlinghetti).
More below the fold.
I've recently decided to get involved with the Obama campaign and I like its organizational structure. One thing that Obama's 50 state strategy has done is lay out the structure that can keep on going to the general election. Despite who wins the nomination, I now have contacts with other people that can work on getting out the vote for the national election.
There will be a sea change coming this year despite who wins the democratic primary. This change can be enacted by contacts we've made through organizing through either the internet or grassroot organizations. Both democratic candidates have projects that will rely on getting bills through the Congress and we should hold our representatives accountable to pass these bills.
The contacts we make today should not disappear once we elect a Democrat into the presidency. We must keep these contacts together to keep our elected representatives' feet to the coals; to call, mail, and email them when things like health care, transparency in government, human rights, etc... are brought up on the floor of the Senate and House of Representatives. I hope that the groups associated with our candidates do not forget that organizing does not end with a nominee; organizing never ends.
Only from the bottom up can we start change in the direction of our country and that starts by waving a magic wand over our own life.
Get the contact information of your representatives because the fight for America does not end at the ballot box, that is where the next round begins.
Get information for your representatives through Here and from there head to Here for even more information (and contact information).
This is my first diary, so feel free to suggest things I might have missed.
