Everyone's excited about watching the Oscars tonight, right?
Wrong.
Instead, everyone should be watching the "60 Minutes" expose on Karl Rove and his corruption of the Justice Department into a prosecutorial wing of the White House. This is going to be good, and despite the unfortunate (or convenient, depending on your politics) scheduling opposite a Hollywood spectacle no one should miss it.
As Glenn Greenwald says it's a "very important piece" and "will undoubtedly be worth watching."
What better recommendation do you need?
Under the headline "GOP Operative: Rove Sought To Smear Dem" the 60 Minutes website says:
A Republican operative in Alabama says Karl Rove asked her to try to prove the state’s Democratic governor was unfaithful to his wife in an effort to thwart the highly successful politician’s re-election.
Rove’s attempt to smear Don Siegelman was part of a Republican campaign to ruin him that finally succeeded in imprisoning him, says the operative, Jill Simpson.
Simpson speaks to Scott Pelley in her first television interview, to be broadcast on 60 Minutes Sunday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m. ET/PT.
The AP says:
Democrats on Capitol Hill, however, have been looking into the case as part of a broader investigation into political meddling by the White House at the Justice Department. Also, more than 40 former attorneys general have asked for a congressional investigation into the case
And Glenn Greenwald quotes Harper's writer Scott Horton:
It's an extraordinary, deep peek into a hopelessly corrupt Justice Department. They've been struggling to keep the lid on this story for two years. And on Sunday it is going to blow.
Who needs the Oscars when we've got a show like THIS to watch?
