I went to the caucus in Lewiston, ID this evening.
The moderator said that the original plan was to hold the caucus in Dem Headquarters since in 2004 about 125 people showed up, but when he heard that about 250 people might show, he decided to find a bigger place to meet.
The caucus was held in the conference at Lewis-Clark State College. The place was packed. The final total was 492 people. There were so many young people it did the heart of many old Dems good. Several of us thanked them for coming and told them we were happy that they were there.
The initial count was Clinton, 89 votes, Obama, 297 votes, a handful of Edwards, Gravel, and Richardson voters, and about 17% undecided.
A friend of mine was undecided and I asked him if he wanted to spend the next four years hearing about the Clenis (my pastor was next to him). He said he didn't and he was leaning toward Obama.
I wasn't able to stay the whole evening, so I don't know what the final total was. I got the feeling that things were going to be pretty static because there was a movement among the undeclared to stay undeclared and go to the convention as undeclared.
There was a lot of excitement in the room and so much energy. I think our local Democratic long-time workers and voters were overwhelmed by today's showing.
I see that Obama is projected to win Idaho. Who woulda thunk?
