Before you attack me with fangs bared:
I am very impressed and excited by Barack Obama's showing on Super Tuesday. He carried states that I didn't dream he could such as Idaho.
I just have some questions for Obama supporters, just as I questioned Hillary's vote condemning Iran's Revolutionary Guard. At that time I was called Reaganesque. Then I asked some questions about Obama, and I was called worse. Read the first amendment if you value the Constitution or just think it's a fuddy duddy document from a long time ago and has no value in this age of Mac vs. PC.
I read today's New York Times Super Tuesday supplement "The '08 Vote". As usual in the media coverage of the two remaining Democratic candidates, Hillary is demonized and Obama can do no wrong. When the strategy for the months ahead is forecast, only Hillary is mentioned as one using calculated political strategy:
Though nominating fights can be debilitating for parties, Mike Murphy, a Republican consultant, noted the financial advantage that Mr. Obama had going into the weeks ahead and said that Mrs. Clinton might well be tempted to fight back in a way that could leave the party polarized and provide an opening for Mr. McCain.
"This could put Hillary into a corner," Mr. Murphy said, "and if she tries a real negative campaign, it could split the party and be a hangover in a general election.
Hillary is bound to go negative if she has less money. Did the media raise this question at all when Obama had less money? Why does the media coverage appear to be so slanted? Obama seems great, but there is not a shred of criticism anywhere, whereas Hillary is deconstructed everywhere. Is Obama a secular saint?
I am a little astonished at the vituperation of many Obama supporters. They fiercely attack any questions about Obama, whether it's which corporations fund his campaign, or even what his voting record was in the Senate since he was elected in 2004. What are his policies? Is he for universal health care? How will he deal with the budget deficit? Will he be pay-as-you-go? Give me some details.
Hillary is also derided as a "policy wonk" as was Al Gore in 2000. I too am a policy wonk. Of course she is "pilloried" more than that and she is also written off. It's amazing how many of Obama supporters echo the right wing criticism of Hillary. If you read the New York Post's (not the most progressive paper in the world; after all, Michelle Malkin is one of their opinion columnists) editorial supporting Obama for the nomination, most of it barely mentioned Obama. It was mostly a harsh condemnation of the Clintons. It's the 90s all over again. Were the Clinton years so bad? Does anyone remember them? Wasn't Hillary's aborted attempt to change the landscape of health care policy in 1994 greatly weakened by the insurance companies' "Harry and Louise" campaign?
Answer me this: Is Obama above reproach? Is he a politician or a saint?
Before you decide and descend to attack me personally, please give me some facts. I am openminded. You can convince me to support him if you want to, or you can just push me away.
