Rush Limbaugh on his show today said something interesting to a caller on his perspective on the democratic nominee.
Essentially, he fears Obama.
Now that begs the question, does, what the other side says matter, and can we trust their comments?
More after the jump...
Essentially we have all argued on this site about, who is more electable between Obama and Clinton and who is more polarizing and whether assumptions on electability and polarization matters in making a choice.
Rush Limbaugh, professional conservative gadfly/anti-christ/comedian( according to Keith Olbermann) said something interesting to a caller today.
He said:
RUSH: I'd be out on the golf course, all these people, "What are we going to do to defeat Hillary?" There was so much fear of Hillary, "What are we going to do?" I'd say, "She puts her pants on one leg at a time like every other guy; don't be worried, don't be frightened." And I think if she gets the nomination, that's no longer a lock. If she gets the nomination, she redefines negative turnout.
CALLER: Right.
RUSH: She just polarizes people. I think she's going to gin up enough anti-Hillary turnout out there to perhaps be a boon to whoever the Republican nominee is.
CALLER: Absolutely.
RUSH: Now, if Obama is the nominee, we are doomed, and you should get ready and prepared for it now.
CALLER: I agree.
Now for full disclosure, I am an Obama supporter, so take that for what you will.
But it strikes me that what Limbaugh says is something obviously true, whether you support Hillary or not. I always find interesting that if you ask Democrats who is the candidate that we fear most, it is John McCain. But tell that to a conservative Republican, especially before McCain became the front-runner, they think that you are a Democrat trying to mess with them.
Dems would love to see Huckabee or Romney. That would be a whupping regardless of whether it is Hillary or Obama. But, there are a group of Republicans thinking that meme is a Democratic plot to try to get him elected over superior candidates.
Similarly, if a Republican says that they fear Obama, then there are a lot of Dems who think that it is a Republican plot to get a lesser electable Dem to be out nominee.
I think that both Hillary and Barack are very similar in their positions on the issues and on the issues, there is very little to choose between them. The difference to me is approach and tone.
I think that this will be the Dems year. I think that both Hillary and Barack would win if they are the nominee.
Regardless, I think that if we elect Hillary - who is a fine candidate - that she will unite the Republicans and help them raise money for their party.
I prefer a divided and broke Republican party, which is why I think that Obama is a better choice.
"...if Obama is the nominee, we are doomed..."
