There's fascinating and vital information on the shortcomings of the Obama campaign in Massachusetts Latino communities in an article in today's Boston Globe. See: http://www.boston.com/...
I believe the Massachusetts campaign has some important lessons for the Obama campaign. Obama supporters were enthusiastic, but the campaign presence was uneven. An article in the Boston Globe details the lack of a presence in key Latino communities. See: http://www.boston.com/...
This article should be required reading for Obama staff.
Secondly, I received multiple mailings from the Clinton campaign but nothing from Obama. Television can be critical, but you also need to get mailers out to voters, and the Obama people need to make certain that they answer those Clinton mailers with their own in upcoming states.
It’s not a tactic I would endorse but I was also push-polled weeks before the primary by an operation that was obviously working for the Clinton campaign. (This very slick poll consisted of dozens of questions designed to try to push me away from Obama.)
These factors: the much more effective campaign in Latino communities, the mailers, and the push-poll may well not have accounted for the full Clinton/Obama margin in Massachusetts, but they certainly did not help Obama. I would add that I do not know how many people were contacted in a similar poll.
