Yep. It sure was stupid of David Schuster to suggest that the Clinton's were pimping out Chelsea to get votes. It was objectionable, it was unacceptable.
But...remember all the times that Schuster's reporting has cut sharply and clearly through republican lies and disinformation? Remember when a republican rep was cheerleading the war on MSNBC and he ambushed her by asking, what was the name of the last serviceperson from your district who died in Iraq? And, remember, that she did not know, and that he exposed her (and the rest of the cheerleaders ) as lying gasbags?
Remember his dogged and tenacious reporting about Valerie Plame and Scooter Libby's trial? Most of the vapid NEWSREADERS on all the cable news networks had no understanding of the issues involved, but Schuster could bring the story into sharp, clear focus. I d not remember any other TV news reporter who could do the same. Most were content to let a Democratic hack and a Republican hack spit a lot of talking points at each other. Schuster did his job, and called a lie when he heard one.
Schuster is intelligent, acerbic and focused. He believes in what he does, and he believes in getting to the truth. He sure screwed up on this one, but it seems to me that the reaction to his dumb statement has taken out one of the bright lights in progressive-leaning reporting.
You really want this guy out of the reporting game? He was sitting in for TUCKER, wasn't he? Are we at the point where we would lynch an ally over a dumb statement, that Schuster apologized for (twice)? Sorry if I'm ranting. Schuster was (is?) one of the few voices I can stand to listen to on Cable news.
Think about it.
