This is one of those cases where people in glass houses shouldn't throw the first stone.
The British defense ministry quickly announced Prince Harry would be withdrawn from Afghanistan now that his deployment had been publicized, putting him and his fellow soldiers at risk.
Matt Drudge, who loves to depict liberals as threatening national security in their criticism of the war, really did threaten national security just to get in an exclusive report on Prince Harry's deployment. And in one feel swoop, he did not just threaten the integrity of our operation in Afghanistan, he threatened the security of a member of the royal family and divulged sensitive information about the current operations of one of our few remaining allies in the fight against Al Qaeda.
Contrary to popular conservative belief, I have never seen anyone on the left being this careless with respect to our troops.
Yet this goes beyond Matt Drudge and his "Report". This type of behavior is allowed by and has even emerged from a culture of conservative disregard for exploitation of the troops. If one was a member of the royal family, they would remind Drudge that Prince Harry is not Britney Spears, and would remind American conservatives that encouraging an environment of political football involving the troops is highly improper behavior, possibly bordering on war crimes.
It's high time the "left" fought back against such behavior.
From FISA to waterboarding to divulging Valerie Plame's identity to firing prosecutors to secret renditions to ever-changing reasons for invading Iraq, American conservatives have put all of us at risk, particularly American and British troops, and Drudge's faux pas is just the cherry on top.
