While I'm sure this has been blogged about before, I wanted to get it off my chest.
Watching the Clintonites on TV can get extremely frustrating, as all of them play up this notion of "record turnout" in the Florida and Michigan primaries. Debbie Wasserman Schultz was on CNN saying that this weekend. But here is the rub.
Yes, Florida may have had "record" turnout for their Democratic primary, but lets do some comparisons.
South Carolina in 2004 went for Bush 58-41. In the 2008 Democratic primary, Democrats beat Republican turnout by about 118K votes.
In Florida, a state Bush won 52-47, Republicans beat Democratic turnout by nearly 250K votes.
In Michigan, a state Kerry won 51-48, Republicans beat Democratic turnout by 273K votes.
South Carolina (+118 Dems)
Florida (+260K Repubs)
Michigan (+273K Repubs)
Are we really supposed to believe that the Democratic turnout in Florida and Michigan really reflected the true leanings of the State? If so, we might as well give up, because there is no chance in hell we'd win either in the General.
