Yesterday, mcjoan had two front page articles about FISA. FISA Fight: Leahy and Conyers on Amnesty, and NM-01: FISA Fearmongering failing. Neither generated much comment. That's sad. Today, the rec'd list swarms with even more Hillary/Ferraro-ness. Add in a little depressing news about the economy from Jerome and bonddad (as correct as they might be, and believe me, I'm a fan of both, never missing a diary from either) and that list evokes the desire to hit a warm beach and stop caring.
But FISA draws me back!
Yes, FISA draws me back!
We need to do something. Two somethings were presented yesterday. Neither something seems to be going far.
How will you use your five week election vacation? Will you Clinton/Obama for the whole five weeks? Will you fume over Ferraro? Will you debate who said what to which Canadian about NAFTA?
Meanwhile the 4th amendment goes on permanent leave?
Here are two actions you can take to defend and uphold the Constitution of the United States.
- Give your time! Write a letter to the editor, there's a tool here to help, (FixFISA.com automatic LTE tool) or better, write it on PAPER and put it in an ENVELOPE, affix a STAMP, walk to the MAILBOX, and drop it in. I've got to believe your odds are better that way, because I'm guessing a lot fewer letters arrive that way, so yours will stand out.
- Give your money! There are 16 Democratic Freshmen in the House of Representative who apparently took their oaths to uphold the Constitution of the United States recently enough that they still remember what they said. They are getting hit by a 527, Defense of Democracies, with robocalls and TV adds attacking them. They could use some tangible evidence that they have taken the correct position. Nothing wrong with some reward dollars. A kind soul, Josh Koster, has set up an ActBlue Page to defend these brave Democrats. So far, 83 people have donated $7,291 to these 16 democrats to directly reward them for their stance. I was the 82nd, yesterday at about 6:00 CDT. I'd love to see those counters make a little more progress than the average of two people a day who have supported our brave Freshmen over the last half day.
Thank you for your help in acting to defend the Constitution of the United States of America. Your future Democratic President of the United States will also thank you, I'm sure.
