Ferraro might be just an expendable surrogate for the Clinton Campaign, and as such is only a small part of the problem. However, I think the egregiousness of her comments merit a forceful pushback from Obama supporters in the blogosphere.
Update 1: One poster has pointed out that G. Ferraro has cancer and therefore the title of this diary is "tasteless".
As posted in a comment below, I was not aware of her illness (I guess I'm kinda low information that way) and the perceived reference to her illnes was completely unintended. I considered the idea of changing the title, but given I never intended to reference G. Ferraro's illness and that I haven't been able to find a good title alternative, I have decided not to change it for the time being. If other posters find the title offensive, I will reconsider. In this case, suggestions for alternative titles are welcome.
Update 2: I've added an option suggested by another pollster as "idea 3".
Some ideas:
- Write an email or letter to her employer:
- Write an email or letter to Mercy Housing. Mercy Housing has extensively used Ferraro as their lobbyist. Mercy Housing serves low income housing buyers, which are disproportionately minorities. I don't think they would have their name prominently associated with Ferraro.
- Do something positive. This was at the suggestion of a commenter below. He/she believes that Obama's supporters should not respond to G. Ferraro in kind, and instead should focus their energies in doing something positive for Obama. I agree this is probably the best use of any Obama's supporter time and energy. However, I also think that G. Ferraro's comments should be forcefully resisted. On the commenter's take that we shouldn't be destroying G. Ferraro or her business, I can only say that I have no illusions that a letter campaign would destroy either of these. Certainly my intention in writing a letter or proposing such a letter writing campaign would not be to "destroy" Ferraro, simply to push back on her comment.
