The first time I saw a Keith Olbermann special comment I cried. It had to do with 9/11, the war in Iraq, and generally the horrible Bush administrations fear mongering. I've wondered since then when would he target some of the Democrats for the numerous transgressions they are doing to the American people. He mentions it of course but never in a special comment.
EDIT: 8:00 PM (EST) on MSNBC
EDIT: Cali Scribe
He actually has directed a Special Comment toward the Democrats, about 6 months after they took office.
May 23, 2006: "You, the men and women elected with the simplest of directions -- Stop the war -- have traded your strength, your bargaining position, and the uniform support of those who elected you -- for a handful of magic beans."
(from Olbermann's latest book, Truth and Consequences: Special Comments on the Bush Administration's War on American Values)
However, he has never aimed his fire at a specific democrat, like he has Gonzales, Bush, etc.
Well tonight he will. He will talk about her attacks on the Democratic nominee, her endorsement of John McCain, her pathetic campaign to date, and all the other things wrong with her continued campaign.
It's about time.
Someone from the media needs to call a spade a spade instead of enabling Clinton to continue her pathetic attacks on Obama. Instead of following along with her talking points of an even race, that Obama is inexperienced (yet she is?!), that Obama would make a good v.p. for her etc., someone will finally say "wait a second she is trying to destroy her own party!".
Maybe, just maybe, this will turn the tide. Maybe Richardson or Edwards or Gore or Pelosi will see this and pull the plug. Maybe Dean will say we must stop this madness NOW! Just maybe.
EDIT: I think this is a good comment made by motbob....
For all of you worried that this will split...
...the Democratic Party.
First of all, it is only a matter of time before KO delivers a special comment against Democratic leadership as a whole. Keith himself has spoken of this possibility. I think the relevant quote went something like this: "After the Democrats take total control of Washington, give them six months. Maybe then they'll be getting a Special Comment of their own."
Secondly, Mr. Olbermann does not have to fill his comment with the non-stop insults that he reserves for President Bush. All he has to do is to point out the unfair attacks Sen. Clinton has been making towards Obama. He does not have to say something like "You are a liar," or "You have no credibility on Iraq," as he has said to Bush. He can forcefully speak against Sen. Clinton's tactics without alienating her supporters. An effective way to do this would be to point out all of the actions that we find despicable, and then be gracious towards Sen. Clinton, saying something like "These are the actions of a desperate candidate, a candidate who has momentarily forgotten the broader goals of her party in a last effort to salvage a failed, mismanaged campaign. All of these transgressions would be forgiven in a heartbeat if Sen. Clinton would raise her campaign to the level of that of her opponent's. She herself actually campaigned with honor until she was convinced, by herself or her advisors, that the nuclear option of going negative against a fellow Democrat was the only way to go. My greatest hope, personally, is that Sen. Clinton will revert back to campaigning with honor."
