I've been intrigued at the Daily Kos tradition of rewarding truly bad diaries with postings of recipes.
Well, let's try something different here.
Let's put on our thinking caps and imagine some appropriate recipes to keep Hillary Clinton busy after she loses her bid for the presidential nomination. After all, she's going to have lots of time off the campaign trail.
Well, the first one that comes to mind has to be Hillary's famous recipe for chocolate chip cookies. You'll recall she had a contest with Barbara Bush in 1992 and Hillary - startlingly at the time - won. Perhaps, given what we all know better about Barbara Bush darker side (does she have a non-dark side?) now, we're not so surprised after all.
Hillary Clinton's Chocolate Chip Cookies
1 1/2 cup unsifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup solid vegetable shortening
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
1 (12-ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease baking sheets. Combine flour, salt and baking soda. Beat together shortening, sugars and vanilla in a large bowl until creamy. Add eggs, beating until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in flour mixture and rolled oats. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop batter by well-rounded teaspoonsful on to greased baking sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minuter or until golden. Cool cookies on sheets on wire rack for 2 minutes. Remove cookies to wire rack to cool completely.
Ah, nothing nicer than the smell of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.
Yum, those were good. My, is that batch gone already? We'd better make some more. Mmm good!
Now, I think she should also be forced to make some of her old rival Barbara's though.
Barbara Bush's Chocolate Chips
INGREDIENTS
* 1/2 cup butter, softened
* 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
* 1/3 cup white sugar
* 1 egg
* 1 1/2 teaspoons hot water
* 1 1/8 cups all-purpose flour
* 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
DIRECTIONS
1. Beat butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and egg until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Beat in hot water and vanilla. Gradually beat in flour, baking soda, and salt, until well blended and smooth. Stir in chocolate chips.
2. Drop dough by well-rounded teaspoons onto greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 10 minute, or until golden. Cool cookie sheet on a wire rack for 1 minutes, then remove cookies to a rack to cool completely.
Now all those sweets are likely to go to Ms. Clinton's head, so she's going to want something to wash them down and to calm her at the same time.
I suggest that she drink heavily. Note, she's going to need bitters for all of these drinks. I don't think she'll have any shortage of that at the old mansion though.
She might want an Anesthetic to help ease the pain, or maybe an Artillery to remind her of what could have been. Perhaps a Bitter Sweet would be a fitting accompaniment for the cookies. Or maybe she'd like a Bushranger, given her seeming affinity for support of Republican campaigns. Enjoying a Go For Broke might remind her of her once lavish campaign spending. On a related note, swigging down an Income Tax Cocktail might remind her of how things might have been had she been more transparent. Maybe not a Tailspin Cocktail - too much like the bad old days of when her campaign was spiraling down.
Ah, but what better than to sit back with a plate of good cookies and to really let all that hate flow, enjoying a Jealous Queen? Meanwhile, Bill can stop in and mix up a Mistress before running back to his office - work to do, you know.
Now I suppose if she wasn't feeling so ambitious, she could just grab a beer. But I see a harder future for her.
What do you suggest that Hillary should whip up after she hangs up her presidential running shoes?
