I'm an avid Obama supporter and he is a great speaker and has really inspired me in this election.
But I decided to find out about his platform and I dug deep into the details and found the issue that is dear to me: Autism.
I was rather stunned that he even addressed it. To be fair I went to Hillary's website at the time to see if she addressed this epidemic problem in our children. I could not find anything. So I went back to Obama's site and read a little more about his plan.
Admittedly, I become emotional because it's an issue I deal with everyday regarding my son. But it really impressed me that a national candidate is willing to address the needs of Autistic children and provide much needed funding.
Plan for Autism
Autism is a rising problem in our country and there is very little help for parents and their children. I live in Florida and there is such limited resources and education about Autism that it really frustrates parents like myself who earnestly seek and need affordable care for their child.
In 1 in 150 children are being diagnosed with Autism.
Fastest-growing developmental disability
Averaging a 10%-17% growth rate
I think Obama could go a little further in the funding but the fact that he even talks about it speaks volume to me and I talk with numerous other parents who are equally frustrated about the help that's available in the private and public sector.
I know sometimes, when we get caught up in the heat of the campaign fighting for our respective candidates. However, I thought it would be important to step back and rewind and go back to why we support our candidate.
I am not interested in what some pastor said or what GF says about Obama being 'lucky' or Elliot Spitzer's sex life.
I want to hear about the issues and how these candidates are going to enact their proposals.
I really thought the 2000 election was the CRITICAL election of our generation but based on the fact that our financial house of cards is beginning to tumble and people are losing their homes at a record pace and the host of other problems facing AMERICA.
However, based on all of the chaos created by this HORRENDOUS administration, the 2008 election is even more vital to this country's survival as we know it.
So my question is what issue is critical to you that would drive you to enact badly needed CHANGe
