I am a liberal. I'm so left-leaning I should fall over. And I love God. My love for God is the driving force in my life. I do not love religion, but I respect them as the paths that millions of people choose to follow.
More after the jump.
I have experienced many miracles in my life, and for me, the biggest miracle has been learning how to have a direct connection with God.
My background, in terms of religious practice, is Christian. My cultural heritage is Muslim. I have read a great deal about many religions, particulary Buddhism, Hinduism, and Taoism (also part of my cultural heritage.) While I don't follow any particular religion, I have found truth in all I have read from. I don't believe anyone's got a lock on truth, and that regardless of what path we choose, God loves and embraces us all.
Looking at the elections from a spiritual perspective, I have become convinced that Obama has a genuine connection with God. I said that to the wife of a hot-shot talking head, and she said "oh yeah, he couldn't have gotten this far without it." I agree. I believe that most people of faith will look at Obama and his campaign, and see that he has been divinely inspired, and divinely guided.
I still read the Bible, but I understand it very differently from when I called myself a Christian. I adore Paramahansa Yogananda, and ever since I read Autobiography of a Yogi, I've read the Bible from a metaphysical perspective. When thinking about Obama's campaign, I keep thinking about Matthew 17:20:
And He said to them, "Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.
For me, that's what this campaign is all about. Taking that tiny mustard seed of faith, and moving mountains.
