In our leaders we are looking for something singular.
An ability to see things we cannot see
An ability to do things we cannot do
So I’m looking for examples of Strategic Brilliance fore each candidate.
Not just good ideas, they litter the ground in forums like these
Not just tactical brilliance, like Roves "attack an opponents strength"
Something that transcends the issue, that cleaves the Gordian knot.
Some examples after the break ...
I would count JFK's Apollo program. In one bold stoke he fought the cold war, engaged the nation, explored a new frontier and build our technological prowess. Oh yeah, and it didn't involve war.
Surely MLKs non-violence was. Countering institutional violence with it's opposite. It demanded that those who would stand on the sidelines, see and judge for themselves where the evil lay.
For me Nelson Mandela’s embrace of the hated Springbok rugby team was. One man put on the symbol of his past enemy and went to the field of battle, embraced them as his sons and cheered them to victory. For a couple of hours at least a nation was whole. Makes me tear up just typing it.
What would you pick from Bill Clinton's presidency?
What have you seen from the candidates?
