Even though I am a passionate Obama supporter, I always thought that a Gore/Obama ticket was the best option for the democrats. Gore would bring the experience and national security gravitas that Obama seems to lack, while Obama would bring the charisma and excitement that Gore seems to lack. Like many of you, I thought that ticket would bring 16 years of Democrats controlling the White House!
That dream went up in smoke when Gore showed zero interest in running for president. I thought there was no possible way that it would ever happen. Now it looks like that will be the ticket after all!
The first place I heard about this possibility was, of all places, here on RedState.com. John Zogby apparently talked about rumors he was hearing from Democrats. I brushed it off as just a rumor, though.
Then, I heard this possibility floated again last night on Larry King Live. It was actually an Obama supporter on the show who brought it up. He said, "If Hillary tears Obama down to the point that he cannot win, we shouldn’t reward her for that (by giving her the nomination). There is a third option: Al Gore."
We all know that Hillary will never give up. If she can’t get the nomination, she’ll make sure Obama can’t win so she’ll have another shot at it in 2012. That means this campaign will get nastier and nastier.
Which brings us back to Gore/Obama. If Obama doesn’t look like he can reunite the party and bring in those disappointed Clinton supporters, maybe the neutral Al Gore can do it. The superdelegates could persuade Obama to give his delegates to Gore, and join the ticket as VP.
Would Obama do it? I’m sure he would if it looked like he couldn't win.
This was my original dream ticket and it may be our only hope!
