It is now a critical issue of paramount concern:
More than the real prospect of losing the general election to John McCain in November due to the self-destructive spiral of this increasingly ugly and damaging primary - it is clear that the very soul of the Democratic Party is at stake.
Since neither Hillary Clinton nor Barack Obama can reach the magic number of pledged delegates, it falls to you Superdelegates to make the call. We implore you to consider the following, and to get off the benches, now:
There is a distinction to be made between the Clintons' policy stances and their behavior.
The Clintons certainly differ from the GOP in supporting universal health care, green energy and ending the war in Iraq, and that is not meant to be an exhaustive list.
However: the Democratic party I know, though imperfect, has also stood for honorable conduct, and has placed great importance on truth and fairness.
In this regard, the Clintons would seem to be much more comfortable in the opposition party.
Some people look back to the 90's and remember how good the times were compared with the Bush years. But that fact should not give the Clintons a free pass to lie, to race bait, and to engage in the most despicable kinds of divisive and destructive politics that we equate with Karl Rove and his ilk.
It is also a fair and major question to ask how Hillary Clinton can possibly win the presidency without the black vote which she and her husband have seen fit to alienate and discard in their zeal to destroy Barack Obama once and for all, no matter the cost.
The party has a choice: To abandon its higher principles and emulate the Republicans' mean, cynical and negative traits, to the further detriment of our nation and the world... or not.
Superdelegates: It is time to stand up and be counted.
